A thesis project for Multimedia Design (2025) in which a team of eight created a new brand identity for Sakura Musume, a city pop duo that sings genre classics and anime songs. As Photography and Videography Director, I covered Asia Flow Fest and delivered 10 photos, a vertical promotional reel and a horizontal introduction video for our thesis.
Sakura Musume already existed as a brand. Our thesis developed its new identity: graphic design, industrial design accessories and event coverage. My part was the coverage.
I talked with the duo’s representative, who passed my questions to the singers, to understand what they wanted to communicate. My teammate Diego guided me so that everything I made respected the identity we were building as a team.
I came up with the concept for the reel and the thesis introduction video. For the introduction, I told a story: a TV plays a concert in low-quality sound, the image slowly zooms in and the TV turns off. Then the concert appears in high-quality image and audio, and I introduce the singers. At a key phrase, the image fades and the audio echoes, leading into the thesis project.
As director, I decided the visual style and planned and coordinated the coverage with my teammate to get different shots. I shot with a Sony ZV-E10, a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN II Art and a Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 Macro G OSS II. In Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Lightroom, I did color correction, retouching, motion graphics, text, music, subtitles and my own assets. The singers were constantly moving, so I had to be very precise with the camera.
My thesis advisor and the duo’s representative supervised the work.
The duo’s representative congratulated us for our effort, our work and our results.
